If you turn right as you enter the walled city through the Land Gate (Ravelin Gate) and walk a little way down the road you see
cheerful red parasols outside a little restaurant opposite the car park. (Alternatively, the restaurant is just
opposite Altun Tabya Hotel). This is a real find for those looking out authentic places to eat. Serving homely
freshly-prepared traditional Cypriot dishes, Şanay and her sister have transformed this family house with chintz
curtains and colorful decorations, and as the sun streams in through the windows and you are welcomed with a friendly smile,
you really get the feeling that you have stepped into their home.
Here is the place to taste real home-cooking, pasta dishes like Tatar böreği, pirohu, mantı,
meatballs made in the spotlessly clean kitchen, white beans cooked slowly with a rich tomato sauce and served with
rice, salad and pickles, and always the dish of the day. Portions are very generous, and the service attentive and efficient.
You can also phone in your order and there are always specials - turkey at the New Year, for example. Highly recommemded.
